Egypt’s Agiba Petroleum drills two new oil, gas wells in Western Desert

Egypt’s Agiba Petroleum has successfully drilled two new oil and gas wells in the Western Desert, supporting the government’s drive to boost domestic energy production, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Thursday.

The wells, Dorra-36 and West Yasmine-3, were drilled using advanced drilling and geological evaluation technologies to enhance output within Agiba’s concession area.

Initial tests showed encouraging natural flows, with combined production estimated at about 1,650 barrels of crude oil per day and 19 million cubic feet of gas per day from the Khatatba and Masajid formations, the ministry said.

Work is under way to swiftly connect the two wells to existing production facilities, allowing them to be brought on stream as soon as possible.

The successful drilling highlights the petroleum sector’s continued use of modern technologies to raise production efficiency, while adhering to safety, occupational health and environmental protection standards.
