Egypt opens Uzbek market to fresh strawberry exports

Egypt’s strawberry exports hit all-time high in 2025

Egypt has secured access to the Uzbek market for its fresh strawberry exports, the agriculture ministry announced Sunday, as the country’s shipments of the fruit reached a record 62,133 tons by the end of 2025.

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk said the move reflects the ministry’s ongoing efforts to support farmers and expand new markets for Egyptian agricultural exports, boosting their global competitiveness.

The announcement followed negotiations led by Egypt’s Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ) with Uzbek counterparts, resulting in market approval and the issuance of technical guidelines for phytosanitary standards, which have been shared with Egyptian exporters.

“Opening Uzbekistan is proof of the quality of Egyptian produce and the trust it commands internationally,” Farouk said. He noted that Egypt’s quarantine system employs advanced digital procedures that shorten inspection times and ensure fresh products reach foreign markets at the highest quality.

The minister highlighted previous market openings in the Philippines, Mexico, and Venezuela, and stressed that efforts to open more destinations for Egyptian agricultural products would continue.
