Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met on Monday with Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi to review plans to secure natural gas and petroleum product supplies for the domestic market ahead of the summer peak demand season.
The meeting reviewed scenarios prepared by the Ministry of Petroleum to meet rising electricity sector fuel needs during summer through higher domestic production and the use of regasification vessels, aiming to ensure stable supplies while supporting the industrial sector to continue operating at full production and export capacity.
Badawi also reviewed efforts to increase output from existing fields alongside intensive exploration and drilling programmes.
Madbouly stressed the importance of accelerating the development of the West Denis gas field, discovered off the coast of Port Said, to maximise its production potential and add new volumes to domestic output.
The prime minister was also briefed on efforts to attract investment into Egypt’s mining sector.
