Egypt exported 230,000 tons of food products during the week of 2-8 May, with citrus fruits and potatoes leading outbound shipments, according to a weekly report issued by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) on Sunday.
The exports were shipped through 3,812 consignments from 1,480 exporting companies and covered around 760 food product categories, including fruits, vegetables, grains, processed foods, and other food products, the authority said.
Fruit exports totalled 57,000 tons across 39 varieties, with citrus fruits accounting for 40,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 9,000 tons and other fruits at 8,000 tons.
Vegetable exports reached 36,000 tons across 48 varieties. Potatoes topped the list at 9,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes at 8,000 tons and mixed vegetables at 5,000 tons.
Italy was the largest importer of Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, Libya, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands among a total of 191 importing countries, according to the report.
