Egypt’s NFSA conducts extensive food safety inspections in Alexandria

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) carried out an extensive inspection campaign in Alexandria as part of efforts to strengthen compliance with food safety requirements and tighten oversight of food circulation in markets.

Inspection teams targeted a number of food establishments to verify compliance with technical and health requirements governing food handling and circulation.

The inspections detected several violations, including the circulation of products showing signs of spoilage and changes in their natural characteristics, as well as products of unknown origin that did not meet traceability requirements.

The authority took legal action against the violations, including destroying food deemed unfit for human consumption, confiscating seized products, and filing reports against the establishments in violation, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The NFSA conducts field inspections based on risk assessments and data analysis to focus oversight on priority activities, improve compliance in food establishments, and protect consumers.

The authority added that inspection teams will continue carrying out campaigns across Egypt’s governorates and will take legal action against any practices that threaten food safety or violate the law.
