Egypt, US discuss investment, desalination cooperation in new cities

Egypt and the United States discussed investment opportunities in the country’s new cities and potential cooperation on seawater desalination, the Egyptian Ministry of Housing said on Monday.

Housing and Urban Communities Minister Randa El-Menshawy met US Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital to discuss bilateral cooperation, the ministry said.

The talks covered investment opportunities in Egypt’s new cities, and the potential use of US expertise and technology in seawater desalination, it said.

El-Menshawy said Egypt’s expansion of new cities and integrated urban communities had created opportunities for partnerships with international companies and the private sector.

She said the government was seeking to attract investment, exchange expertise, and introduce new technologies in urban development and infrastructure.

Silverman expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with the ministry and expanding partnerships with US companies, according to the statement.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination and explore additional areas of cooperation, particularly in sectors identified as priorities under Egypt’s urban development plans.
