China’s Xi to visit Egypt 30 Aug. – 3 Sept., first time in a decade

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Egypt from 30 August to 3 September, China’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

Xi is scheduled to meet President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the visit to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency’s spokesperson.

“From 30 August to 3 September, President Xi Jinping will attend the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Bishkek and pay state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues, the statement said.

The visit comes as Egypt and China seek to deepen their bilateral ties and expand cooperation across economic and strategic fields.

Xi’s visit will be his first to Egypt in 10 years.
