On Saturday Egypt’s Administrative Court postponed a lawsuit demanding Google be blocked in Egypt for keeping the controversial anti-Islam film “Innocence of Islam” available via YouTube, which Google owns. The trial is scheduled to reconvene on 2 November.
The lawsuit was filed by two NGOs, the Egyptian Association for Legal Development and the Ufuk Association for Development, accusing Google of violating an agreement in risking the safety of the public by sharing the “offensive film.”
The two NGOs have demanded that the film be removed from YouTube. They have also requested that Google make a public apology to the Muslim world and pay compensation to “all Muslims” worth LE 2 billion for the damage the film has caused
Following the YouTube circulation of the US-made film ridiculing the Prophet Mohammed, Egyptian lawyer Mohamed Salem filed a lawsuit to block YouTube in Egypt until all anti-Islamic content is removed from the video-sharing website.
