Yahoo to bring new Leadership to Tumblr, Web-video

Yahoo’s chief Marissa Mayer is shuffling management again to bring new leadership to blogging site Tumblr and Web video, two areas where she has pushed for more growth.

Adam Cahan, the executive who had overseen mobile products, will lead a new group focused on video, according to people who have reviewed a company-wide memo sent by Mayer on Friday.

The shakeup has also resulted in a demotion for David Karp, who founded Tumblr and sold it to Yahoo for $1.1 billion in 2013. At the time of the deal, Mayer pledged to let the site continue operating independently under Karp’s control.

Rather than report to Mayer, his new boss will be Simon Khalaf, who joined Yahoo with its acquisition of mobile analytics provider Flurry last year. Khalaf has been promoted to senior vice president overseeing the home page and Tumblr, the memo said.

In another change, the former head of Yahoo’s home page, Mike Kerns, is departing from the company, he said in a Twitter post on Friday. Kerns, who joined Yahoo when it acquired his startup, Citizen Sports, in 2010, rose to the role of senior vice president and led redesigns of several of the company’s most popular sites, including its home page, news and finance portals.
