Egypt allocates $301k for blast-hit cancer institute

Egyptian Social Solidarity Minster Ghada Waly on Tuesday approved to allocate 5 million Egyptian pounds ($301,670) from Nasser Social Bank’s (NSB) budget to renovate the blast-hit National Cancer Institute.

The institute’s building was damaged by an explosion that killed 20 citizens and injured 47 others. The accident took place shortly after midnight on Monday.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly decided to pay 100,000 pounds to families of each martyr, besides other 100,000 pounds for total-disability benefits 50,000 pounds for those who need treatment for extended period.

State-owned construction firm Arab Contractors has been mandated to execute renovation and restoration works at the National Cancer Institute’s building affected by Sunday’s blast.

A car contained explosives and drove wrong-way to crash into three other cars in front of the building was used in a terrorist operation. The Interior Ministry said this car had been prepared by the Hasm militant group for terror attack elsewhere.

30 patients at the cancer institute have been transferred to other hospitals due to the damage caused by the blast.
