Egypt’s chemical exports drop by 10% in Q1- report

Egyptian chemical exports declined by 10 percent during the first quarter of 2016 to 226.9 million Egyptian pounds (US$25.5 million) versus 252.9 million pounds a year earlier.

According to the latest report released by Egyptian Chemicals Export Council (CEC) Wednesday, ten firms seized 96.6 percent of the total exports with 219.2 million pounds in January-March 2016.

The report showed that Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene company- ELAB was the largest exporter of chemical products with exports estimated at 192.3 million pounds, capturing around 88 percent of the total volume by the end of March 2016.

Following Elab,  ExxonMobil-Egypt was the second largest exporter whose exports reached 5.8 million pounds then Egypt Bentonite & Derivatives Co. -EBDC with exports of 5.2 million pounds.

Around ten states captured 89.4 percent of Egypt’s chemical exports in January-March 2016 with around 202.9 million pounds; Turkey was the largest importer of Egyptian chemical products with imports of 84.8 million pounds, the report stated.
