Egypt’s three mobile operators need ‘more frequencies’ to operate 4G networks

Vodafone, Orange Egypt, and Etisalat Misr declined to buy the 4G licences due to “have been offered insufficient frequencies for operation of the 4G networks”, an official in one of the three mobile operators said.

The source added to Amwal Al Ghad that his company called the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and telecoms regulator NTRA to equally distribute the current frequencies among the four mobile operators, including Telecom Egypt, or even release new frequencies.

Egyptian government should be fair and not be biased, the source said.

He added that his company demanded a disclosure of terms upon which Telecom Egypt obtained the 4G licences. The three operators call into question the sincerity of the NTRA in respect of giving Telecom Egypt special facilitations any of the them would ever be granted.

The official further added that each of the three operators took the decision to decline to buy the 4G licences individually asserting that his company is willing to re-apply for the licences later
