Egypt exported 215,000 tons of food products in the week ending April 18, with potatoes and citrus fruits topping the list of outbound shipments, according to the National Food Safety Authority’s latest weekly report on Sunday.
A total of 4,410 export consignments were cleared during the period, representing 640 product categories across vegetables, fruits, flour, and various processed foods. Exports came from 1,385 companies, underscoring the depth of Egypt’s agri-food sector.
Potatoes were the standout among vegetables, with 33,000 tons exported, followed by 8,000 tons of beans and 7,000 tons of fresh onions. In all, Egypt exported 70,000 tons of vegetables spanning 72 varieties.
Among fruits, citrus exports led with 42,000 tons, followed by 20,000 tons of strawberries and 3,000 tons of mixed fruits, totaling 65,000 tons across 27 fruit types.
The Sudan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands emerged as the top destinations for Egyptian food exports out of a total of 194 importing countries.
