A widespread outage in Microsoft Azure’s cloud service, triggered by a faulty update from the CroudStrike software firm, impacted around 8.5 million devices running Windows operating systems, Microsoft reported on its blog.
The issue, which affected less than one percent of all Windows machines, had broad economic and societal repercussions due to the reliance of enterprises on CrowdStrike for critical services.
CrowdStrike collaborated with Microsoft to develop a solution that will expedite a fix for the faulty update.
The outage, which occurred on July 19, disrupted operations in banking, airlines, media, and other industries globally. Companies in the US, Australia, India, the UK, and the European Union reported issues.
CrowdStrike confirmed to CNBC that the latest update of its antivirus software was linked to Windows malfunctions and assured that their specialists are working to roll back the software to an earlier version.
