Microsoft reveals cloud tools for telecom firms

Microsoft revealed previews of two AI-powered services designed to manage telecom networks, having the same capabilities used to manage the company’s Azure cloud platform.

The company said in a post that the operators will benefit from advance AI to help them unlock new business opportunities and have insights on their operations. The will include the rollout of high speed 5G networks.

Microsoft started working with the 5G feature after its acquisition of cloud networking companies in 2020 such as Metaswitch.

The company also focuses on AI since it has been getting widespread attention in Silicon Valley and beyond, as it announced last month that it aims to imbue such AI in all its products.

“What we’re doing is taking our native cloud work and making it specific to this telecom operator network space. I think a really great example of that is all the AI ops work that we are introducing into the system,” said Jason Zander, executive vice president of strategic mission and technologies at Microsoft.

Telecom partners such as AT&T Inc., Nokia OYJ, and Ericsson will benefit from the company’s new nexus service which will allow operators to manage their networks from the cloud.

The developments will allow operators to “transform their core networks while improving customer experiences” said Monica Zethzon, vice president at Ericsson.
