Renegotiating with Mobile Operators is More Feasible than Imposing Taxes

Engineering consultant Mamdouh Hamza has called upon renewing negotiations with foreign mobile operators working in Egypt, noting that “all contracts with these mobile operators have been signed in the era of corruption.”

Minister of Finance Momtaz al-Saeed is currently considering charging a one-piaster-per-minute tax on mobile calls. He pointed out that this tax will be incurred by the subscriber, collected by the Mobile operator, and supplied to the public treasury.

On his Twitter account,  Hamza stated that Dr. Mohamed Morsi’s government seeks to impose mobile taxes. He suggested renewing negotiations with mobile operators instead of burdening people with additional taxes, noting that contracts with these mobile operators were signed in the era of corruption, focusing on the interest of the foreign side.

He added that he is sure that these contracts include illegal matters and loopholes that can be tamed to achieve the desired goal. He added that he would volunteer to hold new negotiations with mobile operators in order to obtain the required financial value from these companies.
