Ukraine to resume power export to neighbours – ministry

Ukraine is once again exporting large amounts of electricity to neighbouring countries, capitalising on lower domestic consumption brought on by the mild weather, according to Reuters citing the energy ministry on Wednesday.

The country started selling electricity on the eve of the Russian invasion in 2022, but it stopped after multiple Russian attacks on its infrastructure, its power grid, and after the take over of Zaporizhzhia’s largest nuclear power plant by Russia..

“For the current day, electricity imports are forecast at 776 MWh. It is also planned to export up to 1,923 MWh to Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Moldova,” the ministry stated.

Due to decreased consumption, Ukrainian energy minister German Galushchenko told Reuters last month that Ukraine might start exporting significant amounts of energy as early as this spring.
