Egypt’s has started disbursing 355.2 million Egyptian pounds as a Labour Day grant for irregular workers registered in its database, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to strengthen social protection. The Ministry of Labour said on Thursday.
The grant, valued at 1,500 Egyptian pounds per worker, will benefit 236,849 workers across 27 governorates. It is funded from the ministry’s central account for social and health care for irregular workers as part of efforts to support this category and ease living costs.
The ministry stated that the payment began on Thursday and will continue for one month through National ID cards at National Post Authority outlets across all governorates. It added that it continues to expand its database of irregular workers and provide support, noting that six periodic grants are disbursed annually in addition to health, social assistance, and accident compensation.
