Egypt’s central bank launches African financial stability portal

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), in cooperation with the Association of African Central Banks (AACB), has launched an online portal for the African Financial Stability Committee (AFSC) to strengthen cooperation and information sharing among African central banks, the CBE said on Thursday.

The platform will serve as a central repository for the committee’s reports, technical papers, studies, and reference materials, including the African Financial Stability Report, the first continent-wide assessment of financial stability prepared by African central banks.

According to the CBE, the portal is designed to improve access to the committee’s publications and initiatives for central banks, financial institutions and other stakeholders, while supporting the exchange of knowledge and best practices on financial stability and macroprudential policy across the continent.

The platform also provides information on the committee’s meetings, technical working groups, governance structure, and ongoing initiatives, to enhance transparency and strengthen coordination among African central banks.

The AFSC was established in 2024 following a proposal by CBE Governor Hassan Abdalla to the Association of African Central Banks to promote cooperation on financial stability and macroprudential policy. The committee brings together central banks from across Africa to monitor financial sector developments, identify emerging risks and support the exchange of technical expertise.

The launch of the portal follows the publication of the first African Financial Stability Report, prepared by the Central Bank of Egypt in its capacity as chair of the Financial Stability Report Working Group under the AFSC.
