Belgium’s employment drops in Q2 ’24
Belgium’s employment indices for the second quarter of 2024 reflect a decrease across most sectors.
The gross index for industrial employees (excluding construction) fell to 99.98, down 1.7 per cent from the previous year. Similarly, the construction sector’s index decreased by 1.4 per cent to 100.67.
In contrast, employment in trade and repair experienced a modest increase, with the index rising 0.3 per cent to 100.55. The services sector saw a slight decline, with the index dropping 0.1 per cent to 106.86.
Regarding the number of persons employed, the industrial sector (excluding construction) declined by 1.5 per cent to 100.32, while construction saw a smaller decrease of 0.8 per cent, reaching 103.39.
Employment in trade and repair increased marginally by 0.1 per cent to 101.11, and the services sector rose by 0.3 per cent to 106.65.
